The "Perfect Storm" of reality tv will hit shore this May with the airing of ABC's "Be My Baby". The show pits five desperate couples against each other for the privilege of adopting a 16-year-old girl's baby.
"We were really wracking our brains on the ultimate reality show," Says lead writer Brian Murray. "We knew that Fox was coming to the table with 'If God Meant For You To Look That Way He Wouldn't Have Invented This Show', and we had to show up with something big."
The ideas flew across the writing room like feces around a monkey cage. "We thought about "I'm irresponsible - THE SHOW!'" Murray explained, "But that's on MTV's Cribs every single week. We were working on a show about infertile middle-class white couples who are so desperate for children that the fact that there are orphanages stock full of 'em across the country just blanked out of their skulls."
"Then, Marcus - that's our sandwich guy - said 'you know what show you should do?' and we said 'We don't give a fuck about you, sandwich guy!' and threw our leftover coffee at him, just like we do everyday. He ducked and dodged as he continued, 'you should mix the two! Do a show glorifying the decaying and nearly decrepit moral fiber of this country, rewarding behaviors like teenage promiscuity and the utter lack of responsibility with legitimacy on television. Then mix it with desperate barren couples. Make a living, breathing child the prize - It's perfect!' And you know what? He had a point."
The show airs this May.
