Todd Barry has saturated the comedy market with stand-up, talk show appearances, movie cameos and a connection to everyone else funny in the world. Recently Todd had released his second CD 'Falling off the Bone'. I was asked to review the CD by Electric Artists. After listening to it twice in one day, I had to take it a step further and actually talk to the man behind it. Todd was gracious enough to grant me an interview. No response yet on a weekend in Key West. Be sure to check out all the comedy goodness on his website
BN: Hello Todd, Let me start off by complimenting you on your shirt. I recently listened to your newest comedy album "FALLING OFF THE BONE". I noticed you lean towards being the 'blogger friendly' comic.
Most comedians I talk to seem to be anti-internet, unwilling to
embrace the web. How vital do you think the internet is to help widen
your audience?
TB: I don't know any comedians who are anti-internet. You just made that up. I love the internet. I'd rather send out a mass email then hang posters all over the place. I also have a myspace page all your readers can join: www.myspace.com/toddbarry
BN: How will you further embrace it?
TB: I will have a MASSIVE update of my site coming soon.
BN: Your website offers a cornucopia of clicking
delights. How much of the site is blood, sweat and tears. How much is
some webmaster your cousin set you up with?
TB: Just like the band I played drums for in the 70's, it's all Blood, Sweat, and Tears. THAT WAS A FUNNY ANSWER I JUST GAVE YOU!!!
BN: Your first album "MEDIUM ENERGY" was released not to long ago.
You took no time releasing your next album. Why so quickly? Suddenly
flood of material? Had a recording jones?
TB: It was actually 3 years between albums. That seems like a long time to me. IT REALLY DOES!!!
BN: Will this be a quarterly trend for you?
TB: Yes. I will release four albums a year, like the Brian Jonestown Massacre.
BN: FALLING OFF THE BONE was a Comedy Central Production. Did you find
yourself editing your funny to satisfy the suits?
TB: Other than making me whiten my teeth, they pretty much left me alone.
BN: Did you learn anything from album one to album two?
TB: Not really. I wish did. Maybe I did. I don't know. That was a shitty answer. I apologize.
BN: What can you tell me about Borrowing Saffron?
TB: It's a short film that I made. You can see on atomfilms.com. Some people like it, quite a few others dont'.
BN: Do you see yourself doing something like this again?
TB: I would like to. And I plan to. AND I WILL!!!!
BN: What future projects can we look forward to? Anything you wish to pimp out?
TB: A DVD of a show called TINKLE, which I do with David Cross and Jon Benjamin. Hopefully it will be out on the fall (on Subpop Records).
