Between Demi and Ashton and Cameron and Justin, Hollywood is telling us it's ok to have a generation gap between you and your girl. But how does the younger man/older woman thing work in the real world?
According to a recent survey, one-third of all women date guys younger than them, while almost two-thirds of guys date younger women. So here are some tips from girls of all ages to help you snag your very own "sugar mama."
1. Take her someplace unique and expensive. You have to show her that you're different from other guys your age. We suggest a jazz club, play, exotic restaurant, or concert.
2. You must be confident. In order to compensate for the difference in life experience, you must at least project the image that you know who you are.
3. Be your own man. Older women are more independent, so you don't have to worry about them being needy the way many younger woman are. But they'll expect the same from you.
4. Have a thick skin. They know what they want and they aren't afraid to tell you. No more guessing games in bed, but be prepared to hear the bad news along with the good.
5. Be spontaneous. As guys age, they tend to lose their youthful sense of adventure. You should offer an older woman something guys her age can't. Like excitement — in and out of the bedroom.
6. Keep an open mind. Depending on the age gap, you will have grown up in different economic/political times. This seriously shapes how you view the world, so stay open to her perspectives and try to learn something.
7. Don't compare her to Giselle. She's not going to have the body of a 25-year-old, no matter how she works out. Gravity happens. Deal with it.
8. Take notes. Older women are usually more self-possessed, focused, emotionally stable, and driven. These are all things you should aspire to when you grow up.
9. Brush up on current events. You won't be able to get by with comments about Paris Hilton TV shows or how many shooters you can still do. It's called meaningful conversation. (It's more fun than it sounds.)
10. Don't move too fast. Older women aren't generally looking to settle down and have families. Or they're trying really, really hard to settle down and have families, in which case, you should move really fast — in the opposite direction.
Assuming you're in it for more than the sex, the most important thing about making it work with an older woman is to have the same intensity about life. If you love going out and socializing and she likes relaxing at home, it will never work, regardless of the age difference.
